The Environment for Development initiative is a global network of environmental economics research centres, focusing on the global south through applied research into effective management of the environment, and the value of ecosystem services. Established in 2007,EfD consists of more than 160 environmental economists. It has 15 centres throughout the world, including Chile China, Tanzania, Costa Rica and Vietnam.

Tanzania has one of the world’s highest rates of deforestation. But in a country where agriculture is the backbone and smallholder farms are the majority, avoiding deforestation is crucial for alleviating poverty. EfD is working to create change by increasing awareness of the value of preserving natural resources, for long term, sustainable food security.

Our Role: We partnered with BBC Storyworks and EfD to produce this short video documenting their work on the ground in Tanzania.
