This film was created for BBC StoryWorks in partnership with UICC as part of the Rewriting Cancer series, which explores how innovation, awareness, and human connection are helping reshape the global understanding of cancer care. Conceived, directed, and edited by our team, the documentary focuses on the role of community healthcare workers in supporting women living with breast cancer in rural Kenya.

At the heart of the story is Alice, who was unaware she was living with cancer until a visit from community health worker Rose led to early detection and access to care. Through their relationship, the film highlights the critical importance of education, outreach, and local healthcare networks in regions where access to information and medical services can be limited.

The film also explores the broader impact of awareness and early detection initiatives in improving outcomes for people living with cancer. By empowering local healthcare workers with training and resources, these programmes are helping ensure that women are not left to face illness in isolation and that communities become more informed, supportive, and resilient.
